Overview
4th Annual Houston Shock Symposium
Registration is closed for this activity.
The Houston Shock Symposium is a dedicated cardiogenic shock symposium that encompasses interventionalists, advanced heart failure cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiac physiologists, cardiologists, critical care physicians, and engineers. It is our aim to have world renowned experts in this field to share and advance knowledge, expertise, and vision to save lives and reduce shock’s unacceptable high mortality rate.
The Annual Houston Shock symposium has over 50 national and international experts in the field of cardiogenic shock. Our targeted audience are critical care physicians, general cardiologists, advanced heart failure cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, intensivists, fellows in training, and medical staff interested in the physiology, diagnosis, and management of cardiogenic shock.
This educational activity is designed for interventionalists, advanced heart failure cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, cardiac physiologists, cardiologists, critical care physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, medical students, residents, and fellows.
Upon completion of this activity, participants will be able to:
- Explain that cardiogenic shock is a final common pathway of multiple different disease states, and that management should be implemented early, and efficiently.
- Define best practices in management of shock and the optimal timing and utilization of percutaneous circulatory assist device including all commercially available devices including counter-pulsation, left ventricular, right ventricular, or biventricular support device.
- Identify cardiogenic shock research priorities, to conduct clinical trials, and to create large population-based registries to generate quality improvement opportunities.
- Discuss current clinical evidence on management of post LVAD and transplant shock and outline best practices of high-volume centers from a surgical and medical perspective.
- Describe the kinetics of cardiogenic shock and patient-device interaction as well as non-device therapeutic options for treatment including hypothermia, revascularization, and inotropes.

The Academy for Continued Healthcare Learning is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
The Academy for Continued Healthcare Learning designates this live activity for a maximum of 16.50 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.
Nurse practitioners may participate in this educational activity and earn a certificate of completing as AANP accepts AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ through its reciprocity agreements.
Successful completion of this CME activity which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 16.50 MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine's (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider's responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC points.
By providing your ABIM Diplomate number, you consent to have ACHL and/or our educational partners submit your participation in this activity to the ABIM through the ACCME PARS system.
