Nearly half of all patients with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) go on to develop post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS). This CME-certified, 30-minute touchpoint features an expert interventional radiologist, Dr. Kush Desai from Northwestern Medicine, and includes video commentary on key clinical trial data and patient selection for endovascular interventions to reduce the risk of PTS. Dr. Desai also addresses the impact and severity of PTS, and the role of interventions in improving patient quality of life.
Featured topic areas include:
• The burden of PTS
• Clinical trials that examine the use of catheter directed interventional methods for improving outcomes after DVT
• Procedural considerations: Device management
• How I do it case on a patient who presents with iliofemoral DVT
• Discuss the risk factors for development of post-thrombotic syndrome (PTS) following acute deep vein thrombosis (DVT), as well as the impact of PTS on patient quality of life
• Outline available devices for percutaneous mechanical/pharmacochemical thrombectomy and catheter-directed thrombolysis for managing acute DVT
• Interpret and apply data from clinical trials that have compared medical therapy with endovascular DVT intervention to deliver optimal, evidence-based care
